Taylor Asbell’s songwriting not only reflects her truest self but also reflects the work that God has done in her life. The singer states, “My songwriting process is either praising God for what He has done for me or helping me process what He is currently doing in me. Each song is a little sermon to myself.” Taylor’s passion for music surpasses the creative stage and flows into the appreciation of the music business itself. She has recently completed her master’s at the University of Miami’s Music Industry program under the Frost School of Music. Starting her career in pop music, she worked with the notable NI Music Group to co-produce her first single. However, transitioning to worship, Taylor has the opportunity to share her love of God outside of church settings and to speak the truth of the gospel to the world through her music.
Fake Friends - Pop/rock anthem and debut single
Taylor Asbell is a singer/songwriter from the greater DC metropolitan area who fell in love with music at an early age while singing in the worship choir and participating in musicals at her church. Growing up, Taylor was exposed to a variety of music. She frequently attended Irish dance classes, learning to appreciate Irish culture as well as traditional folk music. At home her father would play his favorite classic rock CDs from many different eras before her time. Taylor’s love of music led her to seek out every musical opportunity she could find from participating in multiple choirs during and after school, to taking music theory classes in high school and college. She even went as far as singing in multiple online choirs while waiting out the Covid-19 pandemic. Taylor has been blessed with the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, Disneyland, and at multiple choir competitions where they took home first place in all of their categories.
While music always intrigued Taylor, she was specifically curious about the songwriting process. She questioned how people were able to take random notes and somehow turn them into art. Something that seemed so daunting has now turned into her favorite activity and one of her greatest musical strengths. A self-taught musician and producer, Taylor has spent much time working on her craft and exploring multiple instruments including piano, guitar, ukelele and the drums.
During 2022, she released her first single Fake Friends co-produced by NI Music Group. This pop/rock anthem highlights her personal growth as she learned how to navigate hard relationships and boundaries. After experimenting with different sounds Taylor has now devoted herself to writing Christian music as an expression of praise to God. Taylor feels that her transition to Christian music is a reflection of her truest self. Being in church and spending time learning about her creator has always been where she has felt the most at home. Her songs highlight praise for who God is and what he had done in her life, or what he is currently teaching her. Each song is a learning opportunity for Taylor as well as her audience.
Taylor’s creativity does not stop at music as she is an avid Irish dancer, model, and actress. She has competed at the World Championships and North American National Championships of Irish Dance, along with winning the Southern Region Oireachtas Traditional Set competition. She has also booked the role of Adult Gypsy in the highly anticipated Lifetime docuseries The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. The show reached over 7 million viewers during its premiere and continues with Gypsy’s modern-day story in The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard: Gypsy Speaks, along with Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. Staying busy, Taylor balanced her college education, filming, training for national dance competitions, and producing her first single all at once. Taylor has also worked on a number of commercials for brands including ESPN, Truly x Barstool Sports, Texas Pete, and the season 2 finale episode of the Apple TV+ show Swagger.
With first-hand experience in Hollywood, Taylor fell in love with the entertainment industry. After finishing her bachelor’s early, she immediately pursued a master’s in Music Industry at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music where she has had multiple opportunities to network with professionals in the music world. She has previously interned at Powerline Management where she managed large acts in the metal and rock genres including Christian rock artist Lacey Sturm. Taylor has also had the opportunity to work as an A&R intern for W3 Entertainment Group where she helped scout and recruit new talent to the label.
Currently Taylor is working on her new Christian recordings which she hopes to release next year. The songs highlight her summer of growth and how God is molding her into the person she is today. Taylor says of her own album, “I feel like this summer has been all about God putting me on the fast track to help me in areas where I keep falling short or in places where I never knew I needed help before. I look back and realize how weak I am on my own without His strength. I feel so at peace now. When I look back, it has truly been a summer filled with joy and I am so grateful and excited for what is to come in this next season.”
